Code of Conduct
Just like every game in a casino there is a code of conduct. The first thing you need to do when coming to the Baccarat table is to dress appropriately. Unlike Blackjack or a slot machine, shorts and a tank top won’t cut it. Pants and nice shirt will do. Take a look around and see what the other men and women are wearing and follow their lead. Once you have been allowed into the high limit room. You want to wait until a shoe has just begun or almost done. You don’t wan to come in the middle.
Depending on how many people are looking to play you may not have a choice. But try to wait if possible. As strange as it sounds it is in good taste to smile at the other players when you sit. You do not have to introduce yourself, simply sit down and smile. Do not ask questions or pry, the players have come there to play not to chit chat. As the game goes on, you probably will exchange comments and some light talk but not in the beginning. Place your bets on the table only when the dealer instructs you too.
The dealer may offer you the shoe, if you are not familiar with it then do not accept it. Politely decline it, no one will think any worse if you do. If you do not accept it then it will be offered to another player. You are not committing some great offense but not taking it, it really is no big deal.
Most players get so deep into play that they are afraid to take a bathroom break. You are not breaking etiquette by leaving the table. Although it is wise to wait until the hand is over, simply leave your chips and inform the dealer you will be right back and he will hold your spot.
Make sure and this is very important that you tip the dealer. The dealer does not make a lot of money so they rely on your tips to help them so tip them well. You don’t have to over tip but a few dollars will do and it really depends on how long you are sitting at the table. The longer you are there the bigger the tip should be. Some dealers are even open to a side bet, feel out the dealer and see if the timing is right for that.
Other codes of conduct are simply, don’t talk too much to the other players, they are trying to concentrate on the game. If at all possible order your drinks when the players do, it becomes distracting if every player stops at different times to order drinks. Overall be considerate of other players and let them enjoy their time.
Baccarat is a fun card game and it can be exciting but a little intimidating if you haven’t played before. But the game is slow paced so you have time to get familiar.
